Live/Work Housing

Third Year Studio SPRING 2022 - SONIT BAFNA

By learning from David Chipperfield’s design positions on scale, structure, proportion, restraint, and space, this building aims to redefine live/work space. By implementing a commercial first floor, divided into office blocks, and three stories of apartments above, this building explores the way that live/work can meet without compromising needs such as privacy and outdoor space. Each apartment is designed based on values learned from the Covid-19 pandemic and implements a large office space with a retractable dividing screen, allowing people to work from home without compromising another space, such as the dining table or bedroom. This building opens up in unique ways to provide entry garden spaces to both the commercial offices and apartments, and introduces a terrace backyard space for the apartment residents. The building comprises of 87 apartments - 78 1BR and 9 2BR units, as well as up to 14 commercial office spaces, a cafe, and enough parking for employees, business owners/employees, residents, guests, and clients.
